Certificate in Public History
Certificate in Public History (Undergraduate)
The History program awards a student the Certificate in Public History for focused study of public history by meeting the following requirements:
1) earn a “B” or higher in each of at least four (12 SCH) classes identified as Public History Courses (any of these may also count toward a Bachelor’s degree),
2) complete an approved internship, and
3) apply for the Public History Certificate prior to graduating.
Required Public History Courses Completed & Grade:
- HIST 305 Introduction to Public History
- HIST 440- Introduction to Local & Regional History
- HIST 490- Internship
At least ONE (1) of the following must be completed with a B or better:
- HIST 328 Colonial and Revolutionary America
- HIST 360 African-American History
- HIST 370 Women in American History
- HIST 428 The United States in the Twentieth Century
- HIST 434 The Civil War and Reconstruction
- HIST 454 The Culture and History of Mexico
- HIST 460 Cultural History of Texas
- HIST 489 Independent Study (3 sch) (by approval of chair)
- HIST 490: Internship (3 sch) (by approval of chair)
- HIST 497- Special Topics (by approval of chair)
Undergraduate Public History Certificate Application
Return completed application to cnakashian@tamut.edu or UC 254 by November 15 (Fall graduation) or April 15 (Spring graduation). The Certificate is not an academic credential or for academic credit.

- apply for the Public History Certificate prior to graduating.

- HIST 520- Readings in the History of Colonial America
- HIST 530- Readings in the History of the American Civil War
- HIST 550- The Vietnam War
- HIST 551- African-American History
- HIST 552- Civil Rights History
- HIST 555- American History and American Films
- HIST 565- History of Early Texas and the US-Mexican War
- HIST 573- Readings in Mexican History
- HIST 460 Cultural History of Texas
- HIST 589 Independent Study (3 sch)
- HIST 590 Internship (3 sch) (by approval of chair)
- HIST 597- Special Topics (by approval of chair)
