What is the Title IV-E Program?

The Title IV-E Child Welfare Partnership (CWP) program at Texas A&M University-Texarkana is a collaboration between the A&M-Texarkana Social Work Program and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).

Designed to strengthen the public child welfare workforce, the program increases the number of qualified Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) graduates ready to serve children and families within the welfare system.

If you are a student who desires to make a real impact in the lives of vulnerable families, this program is designed to be your pathway, preparing you for a meaningful career in child welfare.

What is the Benefit to Me as a Student?

Through the program, you can receive a generous stipend and professional training that will prepare you to enter the child welfare workforce after graduating from the BSW or MSW program.

Funding Highlights:

  • A&M-Texarkana receives funding for eight (8) $6,000 Title IV-E Child Welfare Stipend Program placements each academic year:
    • Four (4) MSW stipends awarded each Fall and Spring semester
    • Four (4) BSW stipends awarded each Fall and Spring semester

Program Requirements:

  • Grade point average of 2.5 or more
  • Acceptance into the BSW or MSW program
  • Complete SOCW 333-Child Welfare and Maltreatment
  • Attend SOCW New Student Orientation and the SOCW Field Orientation
  • Fingerprint and FBI background check

Stipend acceptance requires you to serve in an eight-month contractual agreement with Texas DFPS/CPS, committing to work in the child welfare field for eight months immediately following your graduation from the A&M-Texarkana BSW or MSW program.
