When do new faculty get access to Canvas?

New faculty get access to Canvas on the first day of the semester.

How do I access Canvas as a first time user?

First time users need to access Canvas form Digital Backpack using their TAMUT credentials.

I am new to Canvas, is there a course to help me get started?

New faculty are automatically enrolled in Growing with Canvas Teacher Training, a basic 'how to' course. 

How do I access courses from previous semesters?

In Canvas, 

  1. Select Courses from global navigation.
  2. Select All Courses.
  3. Scroll to Past Enrollments and select the intended course. 

How do I request course merge?

Submit the course merge request in TeamDynamix.

Important - Upon merging all content, student submissions, and grades are lost. Also course merges are irreversible.

How do I add an extra assignment/Quiz attempt for a student?

Note: By default, attempts are unlimited. If a limit is specified, you can give an extra try with 'Reassign' in SpeedGrader, as long as submissions are still allowed.

How do I add another instructor to my course?

To add another instructor to your Canvas course, submit a TeamDynamix ticket.

Note: If the new instructor needs to be officially listed as the Instructor of Record, this must be handled by your academic department through the Registrar’s Office. 

How do I get access to another professor's course?

Can students submit a video as an assignment?

Students can submit videos as long as the text and file upload options in the assignment are enabled.

How can I verify the originality of students' work?

To check the originality of student work, enable the plagiarism review software, Turnitin, available in Canvas through Assignments. 

Set the assignment Submission Type as Online to enable Turnitin.

How do I copy a course that is using the book bundle?

Instructor can perform a standard Canvas course copy. After the copy, it may be necessary to re-link or re-pair the publisher's book bundle tool within the new course shell. For instructions, please refer to the publishers' support page.

Where can I locate self-help resources?

Faculty can use the Help button in the global navigation of Canvas to access guides, support, Instructor FAQs, and the Training Services Portal without emailing or submitting a ticket.
