Veteran Benefits with Financial Aid

Use of Financial Aid with Veteran Benefits

Financial aid can be used concurrently with VA and State of Texas veteran education benefits, as well as DOD Tuition Assistance.  The Veteran Services Center staff is prepared to assist you in navigating the process in applying for financial aid.  One-on-one assistance is available, both, in the Veteran Services Center and the Financial Aid Office to help you understand the various types of aid potentially available to help you finance your education. Visit our Financial Aid webpage for detailed information.

In order to receive financial aid, all students must:

  • Compete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.studentaid.gov) and list Texas A&M University Texarkana (school code 031703) on their FAFSA®.
  • All students will need a FSA ID (www.studentaid.gov) to complete a FAFSA®.  For eligibility requirements, please click here.
  • For the upcoming school year (fall term through summer term), the FAFSA® opens on October 1st so students should aim to complete the FAFSA® as soon as possible after this date.
  • To be considered for the maximum opportunity for various types of grants and other aid, students need to complete the FAFSA® and submit all required financial aid documents for the award year by the Priority Deadline, January 15th.

Once you have submitted your FAFSA®, review your ACE Mail frequently as any additional requirements/information needed by the Financial Aid Office to complete the processing of your application will be sent to you via email.

Estimating Cost of Attendance:

The following websites can also help you determine an estimate cost of attending Texas A&M University-Texarkana:

  • The College Scorecard:  a consumer tool and resource to assist prospective students and their families as they evaluate options in selecting a school.
  • The College Navigator:  a consumer tool that provides school information to include tuition and fees, retention and graduation rates, use of financial aid, student loan default rates and features a cost calculator and school comparison tool.
  • The "Paying For College" webpage:  can be used by prospective students  to enter the names of up to three schools and receive detailed financial information on each one and to enter actual financial aid award information.

Financial Aid Shopping Sheet:  (Note: This section is under construction) The Financial Aid Shopping Sheets below are an example of the Shopping Sheet that will be customized for you, once you are accepted to A&M-Texarkana, based on the information you submit on your FAFSA®.  The cost of attendance figures are based on Texas A&M University-Texarkana 2017-2018 cost of attendance data and the financial aid award figures are average awards provided to students.  The Shopping Sheets do not reflect any VA benefits since the amount received is dependent upon the benefit being used.  You can use the VA’s GI Bill® Benefits Comparison Tool to determine the best VA benefit for you.
